Rosa Iliou (1928-2018) was a Greek sculptor. She graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts, in the department of sculpture, under the teaching of Michalis Tombros. She worked and studied in Kamakura, Japan, in the renowned workshops of R. Yamaguchi and T. Hizano, where she specialized in ceramics, sumi-e ink painting and origami paper art. She travelled a lot, lived and worked in Athens in P.Faliro.
She held five solo exhibitions in Athens, (Nees Morfes 1964, Ora 1969, Diogenes 1976, Zygos 1981 and 1985, Pleiades 1991). One in Boston (Maliotes Art Center Boston 1976) and one in Washington D.C.
She participated in 5 national exhibitions, all of which were organized by the Sculptors Association in Greece and abroad. She also participated in many group exhibitions.
Her works are in the Fagenza Museum of Ceramics, the R. Hudson Collection in Washington D.C., the I. Vorre Museum of Contemporary Greek Art, Yokosuka, Japan, the Pierrides Gallery, the Kotopouli Museum (Kostas Ioannidis Collection), the Cyclades Museum and the Delphi Gallery.
Her works can be found at the Pal. Faliro beach, the Sainopoulio Park of Sparta, the Sparta State Hospital, the Fallen Soldiers' Memorial in Kythera, the Diplarakos Gallery in Pal. Faliro, the library of the HEN of Neo Faliro.
Her jewellery was exhibited at the Jewellery Exhibition of the Ministry of Culture in Thessaloniki.
The last exhibition in which she participated was held in Berlin in 2016 at the ChertLüdde gallery, entitled If you could only come back, even just for one night, in dialogue with Tyra Tingleff.
The material presented on the site is part of the archive of Rosa Iliou which is managed by her granddaughter Kleopatra Tsali. The sculptor's work and archive belongs to the family and is located in the space where her studio was housed in P. Faliro.
